Home Cradle the Light Gracie and the Bad Hat Eliza's Hope Fragments of Light Long Strange Trip

Long Strange Trip: Kenneth Hailey believes he can deal with everything logically - even love. Until he meets Rose Red, a free-spirit flower child who believes in loving the one you're with. And, while love plays its part, for Kenneth, 1967 is the year he wakes up.

But is he ready for Rose Red?

Rose Red, a free-spirited flower-child, challenges Kenneth's very essence. She itches to strip him of his button-down shirts, crew cut and thick rimmed glasses by introducing him to her world of love-ins, protest rallies, and rock concerts. Their worlds collide, and Kenneth finds himself falling down the rabbit hole, hanging on for dear life! Not willing to give up his old habits, he tries to retire into his shell, a place of security and comfort, but Rose has other plans for him.

Set in San Francisco during the turbulent sixties, it’s a story about love, acceptance and the willingness to see the world in a new light.

Long Strange Trip Review by Valerie - Love Romances and More - 5 Heart Review

"Ms. Gaia also gives her readers two characters so different from each other the reader will wonder if they will ever be able to find the love that seems to keep slipping out of their grasp.  Both Rose and Kenneth come alive in this story and their escapades will keep the reader turning the pages.  This reader was catapulted back to her childhood while reading this book and Rose and Kenneth’s story was a delight to read.  Both go down a path of changes and learning.  This reviewer got the goose bumps and warm glows while reading the very satisfactory ending of this wonderful story."

Romance at Heart review:

“Long Strange Trip is a fascinating story that takes a reserved man and allows him to open up and discover feelings that are buried. Rose and Ken both go through an untried phase of discoveries that allow each to find something at the end of the tunnel that leads to surprising findings. Both are forceful in their actions, thoughts and ways.

Vicki Gaia sketches a story where the reader can feel the emotions and the adventure of the characters. She stirs an engaging read that reaches out and touches the reader in a way that many can relate. Sometime rocky, sometimes wild and loving, this is one venture that carries the reader on a roller coaster ride that is quite remarkable. She captivates her audience by incorporating the sixties, then the present and molds characters that are quite refreshing. Ken and Rose come alive in the story with a sexual energy in life that should be shared and enjoyed by everyone in this enchanting read.” reviewed by Linda

5 Unicorn Rating - Enchanted In Romance - review by Anita

I found Long Strange Trip to be a sentimental journey of love, politics and adventure. I enjoyed both Rose and Kenneth, and it was enhanced even more because they were completely on different spectrums of personalities. Kenneth may have been rigid in some of his thinking, but he was reliable and would gladly help provide and take care of the woman he loved. Rose was a bit of darling, so sexy and eager to experience all that life offers. She could show Kenneth everything that is worth treasuring in life. Together, they lead the reader on a joyful ride of unpredictability and good ole fun. I loved every minute of their story, and have learned some interesting stuff about the 1960s.

6 Magical Wands - Enchanted Ramblings: review by Autiotalo

This is a tour-de-force, an examination of the human soul and its expectations and limitations, of love in its different facets, and of need. With exquisite detail that captures the mood and setting of both time and place, Ms Gaia also gives us a plot and dialogue both realistic and meaningful. Kenneth and Rose are two very special characters I'll remember for a long time. An intelligent and well-crafted read, I recommend it whole-heartedly.

Romance Review Today review by Lisa Baca - posted June 16, 2006.

Ms. Gaia has created two lovers with interesting and sometimes thorny personalities. They are ultimately likeable in spite of their problems, and fight their way to a conclusion that many will find satisfying.  Secondary characters, such as Rose’s friends and roommates, and professors at the university are vivid and believable. They help to create the atmosphere of revolution and learning that truly existed at the time.

LONG STRANGE TRIP is a different and interesting novel that people unfamiliar with the West Coast of the '60s will enjoy. I recommend it for your summer enjoyment.
